Geoscience Disaster Movie Plot Storyboard Guidelines
This is 500 point project that will go in the notebook category! Do it!!!

Assignment Objective:• Your assignment is to correctly apply your knowledge of geosciences to the world of Hollywood science fact and fiction by creating a movie story board.
• The story board and your movie pitch (you will be “selling” your movie to me in front of the class) will be completed on the Monday before your final or the Senior’s last day.
What is a story board?

Filmmakers use different elements to tell stories. Story boards focus specifically on the use of pictures to tell stories or movie plots. You (and up to one partner) will create a series of pictures and brief descriptions on the poster board that, if presented to a Hollywood executive (Mrs. H), would convince them to make your movie. Examples of real Hollywood storyboards can be seen in front of the classroom.

Requirements for a successful storyboard
Final Story board will be one of several things:
• Drawn or Photoshopped Images taped to a poster board showing movies progress OR

• Power Point slides OR
• Video Taped mini-segments
o       NOTE: if you choose to do a video, it can be no longer than two minutes but must tell the entire story.
o       Video groups can have a maximum of FOUR people in a group and ALL must share equal camera time. Capiche?

Vital Geoscience information needed:
 Your story must revolve around at least FIVE (5) factual Geoscientific topics we’ve covered this year or that are in your book (stuff that really could happen).
 You must note in the text on your story board the FACTUAL Geoscientific stuff and then offer support as to where the thing you depicted in your movie actually happened in real life (ex: This is a geosceintific fact: a woman in Modesto was hit by lightning in 2006 or, tornadoes picked-up cows and dropped them 50 miles away, etc).
 The real world support should be referenced. (For example, article from the Modesto Bee, April 23, 2006)
 You need to have at least THREE (3) Geoscientific movie fibs that are then explained in the notes as to how it could never happen in real life. Just stretch the truth of some geoscience topics. (ex: bolt of lighting struck the earth causing an EQ to open up. This could never happen because….)

Putting it all together
o The final story board will show pictures in the sequence of how your movie develops and must include the side notes supporting your facts or discrediting your fibs.
o Work need not be colored, but it should be detailed and clear. REMEMBER, YOU”RE TRYING TO SELL ME YOUR IDEA TO MAKE MILLIONS!! IMPRESS ME!

HOMEWORK:
  1. Movie Project - decide on partner or no partner and type of project.  Due Thursday!
