AGENDA:

  • Discuss today's weather (it has a lot to do with convection!!!!)
  • Makeup Plate Tectonics Test for students who were absent Monday
  • Ocean Floor Features map - ID and color features, answer questions.
HOMEWORK:
  1. Due Monday: finish coloring the ocean floor features map and answer the questions.
  2. If you are choosing to redo 3 parts of the plate tectonics project, that work is due on Monday.  See the earlier post on Tuesday, Feb. 25 for more information.

*We have started the oceans unit.  It is chapters 14-17 in the Earth Science book.  Be sure to read those chapters if you miss class for any reason.*

  • Notes - 14.2 - Features of the Seafloor
  • Begin Homework questions
HOMEWORK:
  1. BRING COLORED PENCILS FOR YOU CLASSWORK TOMORROW!
  2. Due tomorrow: Questions for Geography of the Oceans
  3. Due tomorrow: Questions for Features of the Seafloor
  4. Also due tomorrow: Marine snow questions and "Are you a good student?" rubric.
    1. I WILL BE STAMPING ALL OF THIS TOMORROW AS YOU WORK
Oceans Unit EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES.  (All due by the day of the Oceans Unit Test):
  1. See the Oceans Unit page for 3 extra credit opportunities.
  2. 50 points - Go to the Gem and Mineral Show.  To get the points do the following:
    1. Go to the Gem and Mineral Show.
    2. Get the Scavenger Hunt paper when you enter and complete it - it must be 100% complete to get credit. (if you feel silly doing this its nice to bring a younger brother or sister to ask for it. )
    3. Show the nice old people and get it stamped or stickered - whatever they are doing this year.
    4. Put your name on it and turn it in to me the following week.
  3. 10 points each - Box of Colored Pencils for class.  You can bring up to 3 boxes.  We need em soon - we are out and have lots of coloring to do!
  4. 50 points - Plastic Art
    1. create a piece of art out of plastic that conveys to the audience the problems that plastics are causing in the ocean and what we can do to help stop or reverse the problem.  
    2. Write a 1 page paper to accompany your art that explains what you hope people will think, feel, and learn from your art piece.  
    3. The art will be graded on it's beauty and the quality of the workmanship.
    4. Look at these pieces of art at the Monterey Bay Aquarium as an inspiration (the last 7 photos).  These pieces of art are part of a display at the aquarium to inform and educate people about the problems that plastic are causing for the oceans.

  • Look at Plate Tectonics Project Grades
    • You MAY have a chance to earn points back;
      • If your group earned 480 points or less, each individual in the group may choose to re-do 3 parts of the project BY THEIR SELF.
          • Complete that work on regular white paper and turn it in (with their name) NO LATER THAN MONDAY, MARCH 3.
      • IF your group earned a 0 due to PLAGIARISM, AND IF THE PLAGIARIZER CONFESSES TO ME, then only the plagiarizer will get a 0.
        • the other group members can redo THE ENTIRE PROJECT ALONE to earn a grade.
          • this would be due NO LATER THAN MONDAY, MARCH 3.
