*A sad example of the relevance of Earth Science classes.  Landslide Blog post on Oso landslip in Washington State

*30 point Extra Credit Opportunity:

  • Read the post above about the landslip in Oso, Washington (above).
  • Read one newspaper article about the landslip as well.  Try CNN, The Seattle Times, etc..
  • Write 1 page that explains the following;
    • which Earth Systems are involved in the slide.  Name the system and what is the example of the system involved.  (for example the hydrosphere is involved through the rainfall.)
    • which 3 chapters we studied in class that are part of the process of the slide
    • Can an Earth Science class help people to be prepared for something like this? Please explain your thoughts in detail.
