AGENDA:

  • Draw and color diagrams for the Assembling California - a plate tectonics story worksheet
  • ORAL EXAM - Students come up and answer 3 randomly chosen plate boundary questions with me.
HOMEWORK:
  1. STUDY YOUR PLATE BOUNDARY QUESTIONS IF YOU DID NOT COME UP AND ANSWER THEM WITH ME TODAY - I WILL EXPECT BETTER QUALITY ANSWERS FROM THOSE OF YOU WHO ANSWER ON MONDAY!
  2. Finish you ASSEMBLING CALIFORNIA diagrams!

*GREAT JOB EVERYONE! YOUR MODELS LOOKED FANTASTIC!!*

AGENDA:

  • Final build and display of plate boundary models.
  • Mrs. H grades models.
HOMEWORK:
  1. Study and review the plate boundary questions for tomorrows oral exam!

**Same as yesterday!**

3.3.15

Tuesday, March 3, 2015

*3-D Plate Tectonics Models are due Thursday.  Your group should be ready to put the final model together starting at the begining of class.  This should not take more than 20 minutes.  Your group should not plan on doing any major coloring or construction of parts on Thursday - you should be ready to assemble the final model.*

AGENDA:

  • Work on 3-D Plate Tectonics Models
HOMEWORK:
  1. Do any work needed on your plate tectonics models.
  2. Complete any notebook work for this unit that is not yet done.
  3. STUDY the questions for the plate tectonics models.  You will be asked 3 of these questions (for the type of model your group has made) so be ready for all of them!
QUESTIONS FOR PLATE TECTONICS MODELS:

Convergent Boundaries Questions:
1.       What types of lithosphere are found at this plate boundary and what are they made of?
2.       What is oceanic lithosphere made of and how is it created?
3.       Why does oceanic lithosphere sit on top of the asthenosphere?
4.       What is continental lithosphere made of and how is it created?
5.       Why does continental lithosphere sit higher on the mantle than oceanic lithosphere?
6.       Why does the oceanic lithosphere go down into the mantle and what is this called?
7.       What is the Benioff Zone and what does it tell us?
8.       What is a trench and how is it formed?
9.       What is an accretionary prism and how is it created?
10.   Why does the lithosphere melt at convergent boundaries?
11.   How do magma plutons form and what will happen to them over time?
12.   Why are there volcanoes at convergent boundaries?

Divergent Boundaries Questions:
1.       What types of lithosphere are found at this plate boundary and what are they made of?
2.       What is oceanic lithosphere made of and how is it created?
3.       Why does oceanic lithosphere sit on top of the asthenosphere?
4.       Describe the entire process of seafloor spreading.
5.       What are pillow lavas and how do they form?
6.       How is the rift valley created?
7.       What is a mid-ocean ridge and how is it created?
8.       What are black smokers and how do they form?
9.       Explain one important thing about black smokers.
10.   Explain the importance of the magnetic “stripes” of the seafloor around a mid-ocean ridge.
11.   What is the age of the seafloor as you move away from a mid-ocean ridge and what does it show us?

2.3.15

Monday, March 2, 2015

AGENDA:

  • Introduce 3-d plate boundary models project
    • must be 3-d
    • must show all parts of your plate boundary
    • should be able to put together the final model in 20-25 minutes and then take it apart and clean it up after Mrs. H has seen and photographed it
    • THIS MODEL IS YOUR GROUP TEST SCORE FOR THIS UNIT.
    • You will also be asked individual questions about the model as part of your individual test score for this unit!
    • MODELS WILL BE CONSTRUCTED AND JUDGED THURSDAY - NO MATTER WHAT!
  • Project work time
HOMEWORK:
  1. Work on your plate tectonics model as required in your group

* What's up with the color of THE DRESS?!?!?  Well, it's sciency and wired.com wrote a great  article about it. Read it and enjoy lording your scientific knowledge over your friends!

AGENDA:

HOMEWORK:
  1. Due Monday: Convergent boundary questions
  2. Complete convergent boundary comparison chart
  3. Begin to think about  how to create a 3-d model of a plate boundary

Thursday, February 26, 2015

AGENDA:

  • Finish Convergent Boundary Notes
HOMEWORK:
  1. Review plate tectonics
  2. Think about how you would build a 3-d model of the plate boundaries at your desk in one class period.

Wednesday, February 25, 2015

AGENDA:

HOMEWORK:
